Ted Nugent Goes NUCLEAR On 'Numbnuts' Critics Who 'Hate Freedom' ~> 'Trayvon Got Justice' ~> Audio

Speaking with nationally syndicated radio show The Weekend on Saturday, rock musician and conservative provocateur Ted Nugent railed against his critics at the New Haven Register who called for a boycott of his upcoming Connecticut concert due to his controversial comments about the late Trayvon Martin. While applauding the acquittal of George Zimmerman of second-degree murder charges, Nugent has referred to the deceased 17-year-old Martin as a "dope-smoking, racist gangsta wannabe." The comments have generated outrage over what the Register saw as language on par with the rhetoric employed by the Klu Klux Klan.

On Saturday afternoon, Nugent pushed back on his "haters," asserting that "people who hate Ted Nugent hate freedom." He told radio host Joe Pagliarulo that "Trayvon got justice."

Bashing the "idiots" who dislike his comments on race, Nugent suggested they are all either "on LSD" or attempting to simulate the psychedelic drug's effects. "The people that hate me hate America," he declared.

"They obviously hate the First Amendment," he added before asserting that he will continue to speak out on his beliefs, with the added "bonus" that he will "drive sub-human numb-nuts batty."

George Zimmerman, who has been in hiding since he was acquitted of murder in the death of Trayvon Martin, emerged to help rescue someone who was trapped in an overturned truck, police said today.

Sanford Police Department Capt. Jim McAuliffe told ABC News that Zimmerman "pulled an individual from a truck that had rolled over" at the intersection of a Florida highway last week. Florida Highway Patrol is now handling the case, McAuliffe said.

The crash occurred at the intersection of I-4 and route 417, police said. The crash site is less than a mile from where he shot Martin.

It's the first known sighting of Zimmerman since he left the courtroom following his acquittal last week on murder charges for the death of Martin. Zimmerman, 29, shot and killed Martin, 17, in Sanford, Fla., on Feb. 26, 2012. The jury determined that Zimmerman shot Martin in self-defense.

As protesters' occupation of his office stretches into a third day, a Thursday return by Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) does not appear to be in the cards.

Since Tuesday, a group of Florida's Dream Defenders have made the state capitol their home. They've called for Scott to repeal the state's Stand Your Ground Law in light of concerns over the George Zimmerman verdict, to no avail.

On Wednesday, the NAACP entered the fray, with WCTV-TV reporting that Scott received a letter from the group asking him to return to Tallahassee.

"I've gotten calls from mothers and fathers worried about school," wrote Tallahassee NAACP President Dale Landry. "That's why the governor has to come back. We have to take another look at this."

According to the Palm Beach Post, Scott is not budging. He sent a letter of his own toFlorida NAACP President Adora Obi Nweze late Wednesday, informing the group that travel will prohibit him from returning to the capitol on Thursday. Scott also argued that the Zimmerman case and Stand Your Ground were not directly tied.

CRENSHAW (CBSLA.com) — Crowds of anti-Zimmerman protesters shut down part of the SB 110 Freeway in Crenshaw Sunday evening.

About 200 demonstrators stood on the freeway to block traffic.

There were reports that some of the protesters threw bottles at police near 39th and Crenshaw

Officers called for back up at the off-ramp and on-ramp at Vernon and Leimert to keep more protesters off the freeway.

Protesters marched onto the eastbound Interstate 10 near Arlington Avenue (map) on Sunday, shutting down the freeway for nearly an hour and leading to confrontations with police, authorities said.

Los Angeles Police Department officers fired bean bags at protesters after some people threw bottles and other objects at officers, LAPD Commander Andrew Smith told NBC4.

The mob was cleared from the roadway by about 7 p.m., when LAPD officers began firing rubber bullets, protesters said. Some of the first tweets showing photos of people on the freeway were posted shortly after 6 p.m.

The protest was one of at least two major ones in the city, beginning about 4 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr and Crenshaw boulevards.

The protesters took to the streets to protest a day after Florida jurors found George Zimmerman not guilty in the killing of Trayvon Martin.

Several people were struck by bean bags in a shopping center near 10th Avenue and Washington Boulevard in Mid-City, said Jasmyne Cannick, who tweeted photos of the protesters and said she and an attorney were observing the rally.

"They're in pain and I don't know what's going to happen to them," Cannick said.

She said that protesters seemed confused and panicked once officers began firing the bean bags at them from multiple sides.

Photos on social media showed a large group of people walking on the freeway with no cars in sight. Several of the people held signs and banners.

NAACP Demand DOJ & Obama File Federal Hate Crime Charges Against Zimmerman ~> Full Report

The NAACP is calling for the Department of Justice to prosecute George Zimmerman for shooting Florida teen Trayvon Martin, with President Benjamin Jealous saying the organization is "outraged and heartbroken" over the trial jury's not guilty verdict.

"We will pursue civil rights charges with the Department of Justice, we will continue to fight for the removal of Stand Your Ground laws in every state, and we will not rest until racial profiling in all its forms is outlawed," Jealous said in a statement released after the verdict.

The Justice Department had already opened a civil rights probe in the Zimmerman case before the case came to trial, ABC reports, and a spokeswoman said Saturday the department will continue to "evaluate the evidence generated during the federal investigation, as well as the evidence and testimony from the state trial."

The Rev. Al Sharpton called Zimmerman's acquittal a "slap in the face to the American people," while insisting the trial "is only the first round in the pursuit of justice."

"We intend to ask the Department of Justice to move forward as they did in the Rodney King case and we will closely monitor the civil case against Mr. Zimmerman," Sharpton said Saturday. "I will convene an emergency call with preachers tonight to discuss next steps and I intend to head to Florida in the next few days."
